Eric J. Riedel

Eric Riedel represents institutional investors in shareholder rights and corporate governance litigation. His practice focuses on derivative and fiduciary duty actions as well as appraisals.

Eric litigates cases involving governance breakdowns, conflicts of interest, and board-level failures, advocating for structural improvements and accountability within public companies. He has represented clients in federal and state courts.

Eric focuses his current practice on high-impact merger cases. Eric has previously achieved some of the largest settlements of derivative oversight claims in Delaware and New York history.

His past cases include:

Credit Suisse derivative action in connection with the lack of adequate risk processes causing significant harm to the bank and contributing to its forced merger with UBS. Eric litigated this action in New York State court and achieved a $115 million recovery.

Amerisource Bergen derivative action involving a lack of risk controls over the company’s compliance with the Controlled Substance Act and distribution of opioids. Eric and the litigation team achieved a reversal of the Delaware Chancery Court’s dismissal and the case ultimately settled for $111.25 million.

TuSimple derivative action in federal court seeking to recover damages for the misappropriation of trade secrets by corporate insiders. Eric led litigation efforts that resulted in a $42.5 million settlement and governance reforms.

Eric earned his BS from Cornell University, where he studied policy analysis and management. He received his JD from UC Berkeley School of Law and began his legal career as a defense lawyer at Skadden. Prior to law school, Eric served as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy.
