FULL BIO

Julien advises institutional investors on strategies to recover investment losses and achieve meaningful corporate governance reforms through securities litigation, fiduciary duty actions, and shareholder activism. Based in Europe, he works closely with U.S. and international investors navigating complex cross-border disputes and governance challenges affecting public companies.

He has represented investors in some of the most consequential shareholder actions in Europe, including matters generating billions in shareholder value and establishing new protections for minority shareholders. His experience includes serving as lead counsel in challenges to transformative corporate transactions, prosecuting derivative actions against global issuers, and advancing litigation that reshaped enforcement and accountability standards in European capital markets.

Julien has also played a significant role in litigation efforts that led to regulatory and legislative reforms, including changes to procedural safeguards in financial enforcement actions. His work before France’s Constitutional Court contributed to a landmark ruling limiting duplicative prosecutions for financial misconduct—strengthening due process protections for market participants.

A recognized thought leader on shareholder rights and corporate governance, Julien teaches ESG-focused shareholder activism and regularly engages with institutional investors on governance trends, enforcement risk, and cross-border litigation strategy. His perspective is shaped by prior experience as an asset manager and equity derivatives trader at leading global financial institutions, providing him with a practical understanding of market dynamics and investor decision-making.

Parallel to joining Johnson Van Kwawegen, Julien leads “Visconti”, a Paris-based litigation practice representing institutional investors in securities, takeover, governance disputes, financial fraud and shareholder rights. Earlier in his career, he practiced law and held senior roles in asset management and investment banking.

Julien holds a master’s degree in finance from ESSEC Business School and master’s degrees, with honors, in business law and criminal law from Université Paris II (Panthéon-Assas). He is admitted to practice in France.
